Going Full Circle

When I left Hawaii to go to a mainland college, I always said I was “taking the long way home”. It finally worked out with a sudden opportunity & a super fast move this spring.

Moana Goes Home
I ran 2 Disney 10K Races as Moana so I pointed my outrigger canoe to the West & set sail. Returning in a few weeks or several decades, depending on how you look at it.

2024 News
Island Girl on the Go
I atttended a Tahiti Travel Conference in Papeete in December 2024 for a full day of 30 business meetings with local travel companies.

My Tahiti Travel Tribe

It was also a great renuion with longterm travel colleagues as well as an opportunity to foster new relationships. All people who care deeply about the best traveler experiences.

Tahiti, Paradise Found
Tahiti aka French Polynesia, 118 sun-kissed islands scattered across the South Pacific Ocean, in 5 island groups or archipelagos. The most famous & glamorous is Bora Bora but her sister islands are equally beautiful & compelling in other ways. I should know. I’ve traveling there over the last 25 years as an Advanced Tiare Specialist (Tahiti Expert in plain English).

The Society Islands
Home to Bora Bora, Moorea and the island of Tahiti, the most frequently visited group of islands for 1st time travelers to French Polynesia. I encourage going beyond these to some of my personal favorites – Tahaa & Huahine – on a future getaway for an entirely different experience.

Postcards from Paradise

IMO the most beautful place in the world. One of the reasons I keep going back.  Here are some highlights of my time in the Society Islands & Tuamotus Atolls doing inspections before & after the main business event.

Island Hopping

Local island airports are very small & informal. A runway with an open air building. Walk out on the tarmac to the plane. Climb stairs to board. Watch luggage & cargo being loaded/unloaded manually. Each plane has a unique fantail design with a Tahitian name. A short flight transports you to another experience.

50 Shades of Blue
Bora Bora. Probably the most famous island in the South Pacific. The lagoon is stunningly gorgeous & pictures somehow never really capture it fully. Surreal in its beauty. It just has to be seen in person.

More WOW factors! Explolre some of the interior spaces of the estate. Complete with staff and a private chef. Activities & spa services to be arranged. Everything is taken care of. Of course it is. Additional images on Facebook/IslandGetaways

Fantasy Island

A Polynesian resort on the private island of Taha’a (neighboring Bora Bora). You know you have entered another world when this canoe house reception area welcomes you with stone tikis outside & lush tropical foliage inside.

Follow the Path
through the lush tropical landscape to your home away from home, a spacious beach bungalow.

Room with a View
My best advice since you came this far. The picture says it all.

Enjoy the sights: beach, the water, the overwater bungalows.

Famous Overwater Bungalows

Tahiti is the birthplace of the original overwater bungalow. Now they come in many sizes & configurations.

Dining Delights
What’s for dinner? Cuisine that is a fusion of Polynesian & French. Grilled lagoon fish, glazed vegetables, fried taro, yuzu with cocount milk foam. Yum.

Sailing the South Seas
Several cruise lines sail through French Polynesia, some on a seasonal basis only. These small ships serve as a your floating hotel as you cruise between multiple islands. A seamless way to travel in different island groups but not as immersive as longer land stays.

Rangiroa Atoll
The lagoon is a giant aquarium, world famous for some of the best snorkeling & scuba diving in Tahiti, with its diverse marine life. Grab your gear. Let’s go & get into that brilliant blue water!

Picnic Lunch
Escape for a day on one of the Blue Lagoon motu (islet) with time to relax on a beach chair in the shade, wade in shallow water with black tip sharks, or snorkel in deeper water over coral heads.

Rangiroa Sunset
My photography is unedited. NO filters! No color enhancement. What you see is what you get in real life, as if you were there, standing right next to me. I know almost everyone who has been here has taken their own picture of this.

The Sweet Life
Dessert? Of course! Why not? Fresh coconut ice cream & mango sorbet with a little tropical fruit on the side. As delish as it looks.

Black Sand Beach
Not found on every island. You have to know where to go. Here, a lone surfer at dusk on the island of Tahiti in the Society Islands group. Also on the remote Marquesas Islands of Tahiti. I know all the best places 😉

Tahitian Style Holidays
Christmas tree adorned in mother-of-pearl shell ornaments & draped in garlands of real Tahitian black pearls. Simple. Elegant. Beautiful. (I wish I had just one of those strands of pearls!)

Lunch like a Local
I ordered The Manuia: 1 seafood skewer, 1 beef skewer, mixed salad, fries. Coca Cola with lime. You could choose to try the local Hinano Tahiti beer.

Cause for Celebration
Need a reason to travel? Tahiti is popular for special occasions – honeymoons, anniversaries, milestone birthdays, retirements. I’m well connected & have arranged them all for travelers over the years. Celebrating something soon?
